I am Dr. Hridayesh Pratap Malla, currently working as a Neurosurgeon at Madhyapur Hospital. I have been continuously serving as a Neurosurgeon at this hospital for the past six years. It has also been six years since the Neurosurgery service was started at Madhyapur Hospital. During this period, we have continuously developed this hospital as a hospital providing 24-hour Neurosurgery services in Bhaktapur.
When it comes to what Neurosurgery includes and what services we provide, we treat the brain, spine, and other peripheral nerves. For the brain, we provide all services ranging from trauma, injuries causing blood clots, and skull fractures. We provide all services, including surgery.
Similarly, for other brain-related problems such as blood clots in the head and unconsciousness due to ruptured blood vessels, all operations are performed here. We also provide treatment for conditions ranging from brain tumors causing unconsciousness and paralysis. In addition, for the past few years, we have also started a clot-dissolving treatment for paralysis caused by blockage of blood vessels in the brain, provided the patient reaches the hospital on time. Many patients have recovered through this treatment. Likewise, we also treat patients with compressed nerves in the back or slipped spinal bones causing difficulty in walking. We also treat nerve compression problems occurring in the legs, hands, and other parts of the body. We have been continuously providing OPD services from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. At present, our team consists of three Neurosurgeons. Besides me, there are two other doctors, and they are also Neurosurgeons. We work together as a team to provide care to our patients.
What we do is this: every hospital has packages called "Whole Body Check-up." In those packages, ultrasound is performed, heart examinations are done, ECHO, ECG, various blood tests, thyroid tests, blood sugar tests, and many other investigations are carried out. However, I have never seen CT Scan or head examination included in those whole body check-up packages. Therefore, as people grow older, especially after the age of 40, various diseases begin to appear. Conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, which we call hypertension, commonly start around this age. At that time, while undergoing an annual or whole body check-up, if a CT Scan is performed depending on the condition, any problem in the brain can be detected if there is one. This can be done with either a CT Scan or an MRI. Both of these services are available at our hospital, and we are providing these services. At Madhyapur Hospital, our main focus is on stroke, which means blockage of the blood vessels in the brain or rupture of the blood vessels in the brain, as well as other brain-related problems such as brain tumors, blood clots, and injuries due to falls. We have been providing continuous services for these conditions.
In stroke cases caused by blockage of blood vessels in the brain, if you reach the hospital on time—for example, within three hours of the appearance of symptoms such as facial drooping, inability to speak, or paralysis—we have already started a treatment method in which medication is administered to open the blocked blood vessel. Therefore, we request everyone to come to the hospital as quickly as possible.
